North Madison Elementary School was started in 1956. Students started attending in1958. The enrollment that first year was 210 students. The first six-room addition was opened in 1962 with a five-room addition in 1976. The building was now a total of 29, 711 sq. ft. In the summer of 1989,the building was renovated and updated. The most recent addition, 1995, added a new gym, cafeteria, music room, twelve rooms, and a kindergarten and preschool wing. The current building is now 82,858 sq. ft. With the redistricting and new facilities, our enrollment increased from 315 to 526 students. Our efforts in the last few years have been to improve the playground and courtyard. North Madison now has over 700 students.`a2 Our PTO has recently purchased $40,000 worth of playground equipment which was installed this past year. A safety gate has been installed in the back parking lot eliminating parking by the portable classrooms. This also allows for more blacktop area for recess. |
